SurfControl has an EMAIL filtering software that we have been using for 7 months named SuperScout Email Filter.

This software is really nice in that you can filter out offensive and inappropriate email from the Internet and internally. You can also create a list of words that are to be blocked (e.g., kill, resume, etc).

All EMAIL that are filtered are placed in a holding area that the Administrator can view. After reading the EMAIL, (if it is OK) you can release it to be sent to the original addressee. Otherwise, you can leave the EMAIL in the holding area and take appropriate action.

You can also use SuperScout to schedule transmission of non-essential EMAIL to transmit after normal business hours. It will also block SPAM and other junk mail.

There is one legal aspect that you may want to consider and that is regarding employees' expectation of privacy. If you do not have a signed EMAIL policy (signed by each employee that uses EMAIL) you may want to create one and state something like... the EMAIL system is the property of the company. The company in its discretion as owner of the EMAIL system, reserves and may exercise the right to monitore, access, retrieve and delete any matter stored in, created, received or sent over the EMAIL system for any reason and without the permission of any employee. To protect yourself and your company.

Does anyone know of a program that keeps all email in a database on another machine so you can monitor what people are sending out?
