The reason we went to Exchange was we were rapidly outgrowing our PoP3 accounts, and were paying more per month for that than exchange would have cost. Viola, we got mail! I used the mailEssentials during the transition process of pulling in mail First I setup the server to be exactly what we needed. tested the hell out of it. Then I set up the SMTP part of it to process mail, then send to a smarthost on an undeliverable mail, where I sent to the PoP3 location. Then I created user accounts Then I changed the MX records to bring mail in first, no longer to the PoP location actually I used mx=10 for my server, mx=20 for my PoP location so that if mail failed, it went on to its end. Tested that Then as I created user accounts their mail came in naturally for us After a couple weeks, no mail was going to the PoP, so I killed the accounts. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Nielsen [mailto:cnielsen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, June 09, 2003 2:30 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: POP3 email retrieval http://www.MSExchange.org/ Thanks for the answer Doug. My main question stems from the main reason we're needing to make this move: we need more POP3 accounts than our web host will allow (not to mention they can't figure out how to live up to their claim of "unlimited redirects"). So what I want to do is get rid of ALL POP3 accounts on this external server except for the one that's made to catch all emails that don't match one of the existing POP3 accounts (which will be all mail once I delete all the accounts). Then have my POP3 connector log in under this single account and retrieve all mail and route it via Exchange to the appropriate recipient(s). What are you referring to when you say "alternate adx"? -Chris _________________ Confidentiality Notice: The information contained in this message may be legally privileged and confidential information intended only for the use of the individual or entity named above.
