Thanks for the answer Doug. My main question stems from the main reason we're needing to make this move: we need more POP3 accounts than our web host will allow (not to mention they can't figure out how to live up to their claim of "unlimited redirects"). So what I want to do is get rid of ALL POP3 accounts on this external server except for the one that's made to catch all emails that don't match one of the existing POP3 accounts (which will be all mail once I delete all the accounts). Then have my POP3 connector log in under this single account and retrieve all mail and route it via Exchange to the appropriate recipient(s). What are you referring to when you say "alternate adx"? -Chris -----Original Message----- From: Stelley, Doug [mailto:dstelley@xxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, June 09, 2003 10:10 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: POP3 email retrieval http://www.MSExchange.org/ I'll try as best I can. Our site also uses MailEssentials, but when we used the Pop aspect of it we pulled in around 150 boxes. Now we host our own mail, se we have no need for that anymore. you need only set up essentials on one server if done right. It will go out to each pop box, and pull it into exchange for you. Essentials will deliver the mail via SMTP to the Exchange server, where it will be processed and if needed, sent to a different servers stores. Question, are thes servers in one domain, or seperate domains? Without altering your MX records, you will set up essentials for each user, their Server, account name & password and an alternate adx. That alternate adx is the Exchange adx for that user. As long as mail can flow within your exchange domain to each server then mail will go properly. The spam aspect will work, because the mail will be processed before it's routed. I don't know about catchalls, we don't use them. Doug Stelley Asst. Network Admin. We have around 25 users in two different states; a single Exchange 2000 server per office; hardware VPN between the offices. We have an external web host that hosts our website and our POP3 email. All Outlook clients are configured to log into this POP3 server on their own to retrieve external mail. The Exchange Servers are used for mailbox hosting and internal mail routing. Without altering our domain MX records, I want to configure our main Exchange server to log into our POP3 server and retrieve all the POP3 email and properly distribute to all users in both offices. * Am I going to be able to get rid of all user accounts on our POP3 server and just let the catch-all box receive all emails, and have my Exchange Server log into this catch-all account and retrieve ALL emails? * Is my main Exchange Server going to be able to route POP3 emails to the other Exchange Server properly? * Will the spam filtering that's part of MailEssentials (or a similar product) work if it's only installed on the one Exchange Server? Does anyone have any product recommendations as alternatives to MailEssentials. I've heard lots of good about it, but just want to be thorough. TIA.
