American has nothing to do with it. You were ambiguous in your request for
feedback and your understanding RPC/HTTP and how to deploy it seems to lack
some information.
How tough is it? I've not had much difficulty. I'm betting Rick didn't
either ;)
Office Live? I don't see anything that shows this to be RPC based at all and
would be surprised if MSN started supporting RPC and the overhead. Have you
verified this is RPC vs. just straight HTTP using .NET passport for
authentication? I could see a shim that hooks passport for authentication
and pulls email off the web into a pst. Wouldn't be terribly tough for them
to do. It also wouldn't be the first time would it? Seen Outlook Express
lately? They dropped that support a little while back, but it looks like it
came back, no?
The setup for office live is nice and easy, yes. But it can be just as easy
if not easier for RPC/HTTP as well. Especially if it's scripted or
otherwise setup. In fact, you can have your users configure it via script
deployed to them (if that's your model) downloaded by them, or using
whatever delivery mechanism you employ. It's not difficult to do and it's
pretty well documented last I checked.
Setting up the inrastructure is not tough. It's well documented and easy
enough (what do the developers say about it? Next next next finish. Done.

Security concerns? What are they? And how do these companies deal with
other web app security? Or do they?
Andrew, I'm sure you didn't mean that in a deragotory way, but it comes
across as rude when you bring someone's country into the conversation. It
would be easier to have these conversations if you didn't do that with
anyone from any country.

You are obviously are from North American judging why you are so confused on
what I said.
I made my point very clear by saying it would make things easier to
companies to want to provide a safe secure way to allow their clients to use
Outlook over net without getting into the hassle of setting up RPC over HTTP
on Outlook; this leaves it open that yes one may have to still setup RPC
over HTTP on Exchange.
There are TONs of companies who would the Outlook Live part if it were easy,
secure and safe to install. Currently a lot of them don't even use RPC over
HTTP because of the head aches that are involved with setting it up.
This has nothing to do with becoming an ISP. It's the principle of how it
works that I am after.

What exactly are you wanting Microsoft to provide with Exchange? You want
them to act as a service provider?
I don't get your point - what function of RPC/HTTP do you think you are
missing that this provides, the automation of setup on the client side?
I guess I don't get it - the functionality provided is just using OL2K3 with
SP2 - the only addition I see is who provides the service.
Am I missing something here?
