Yes, OWA only. Replying to a PF post requires a item to be created in the mailstore because it's going to go out via the mailstore. Outlook can handle the complexities associated with cross-store operations. It's much smarter than OWA in many ways. ________________________________ From: exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Carl Houseman Sent: Friday, March 31, 2006 11:03 AM To: exchangelist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ExchangeList] Re: OWA question... Just to clarify, are you speaking only of the OWA environment? I've not seen a problem doing such moves in an ordinary Outlook client. And obviously I don't understand the underlying mechanics and limitations thereof, because I really don't see how starting a reply to a PF post is crossing stores when it's OWA but not when it's Outlook. Really, just another symptom of the same issue (which is that you can't cross stores in a single-server environment). ________________________________ From: exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:exchangelist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Carl Houseman Sent: Friday, March 31, 2006 10:09 AM To: exchangelist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ExchangeList] Re: OWA question... You can use FBA on Exchange without a FE/BE configuration. And you can apply SSL on the single server as well, use RPC over http, and all of that. In fact, the only limitation I know of is one you wouldn't expect: - In a public folder, one cannot Reply to a post through OWA. Have a friend running Exchange 2003 for his organization. He has only one backend server that he is also using for OWA access. My question, since he is not running a Front-End/Back-End configuration, he is not going to be able to use 'Forms Based Authentication', correct? Also, if he is unable to purchase another server to act as a Front-End server, can he apply an SSL certificate to the OWA site on his single Backend Server for security? He is trying to deploy Mobile Devices with his current setup, and my experience is that you can not support Windows Mobile Devices without an SSL cert. on the server, but that is a side point. Sorry for such 'simple' questions as I have never worked in a Single server exchange 2003 environment and I obviously need to brush up on the limitations of that type of deployment. I look forward to your responses. Thanks Chris Wall - MCSE + Messaging, MCSA NAM Exchange Administrator Chris.Wall@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx T (919) 460-3236 F (919) 468-4889 Global Knowledge LEARNING.
