I have to agree with Jeff here...when the user starts his VPN
connection, when checking the log for his VPN connection, does the user
receive an IP from his VPN connection?

When he has his VPN connection enabled, he is able to browse the
internet at all?

Do your VPN logs show him logging in ok?

Still working on the problem - no solution to date 
Microsoft recommended installing Office XP SP1
Unfortunately the Outlook client is already at SP3 so that was not the
solution 
Now they want me to disable all the Win XP startup services and see if
that
solves the problem - then add the services back in one at a time- which
takes
a considerable amount of time - it restarts the machine every time you
do
this - I have not done this yet to see if it solves anything - hoping to
work
on it this afternoon

etc...)or
is exchange all that you do give him access to?  How many instances of
IP
does he have running in network properties?

His VPN configuration is the same as mine which works perfectly - the
only
difference is that he is on Windows XP operating system and I am on
Windows
2000 Pro - I should have stuck with Win2K Pro!

Have him compare his VPN settings with his Co-workers settings.  If he
works
OK on the network, but not from VPN, it's not an outlook problem. If his
Co-worker is able to connect with no problems from a location that he
can't
and he is unable to connect from any location with VPN, I would suspect
his
VPN configuration.

He is not at home
He is at a co-worker's home in Seattle, WA - the co-worker frequently
connects to the VPN through his high speed connection.  We have the same
problem when he tries to connect from his home in Portland with a high
speed
comcast provider - on his home network.

Is he trying to VPN in from home?  If so, does he have a network
configured
at home, or is he trying to VPN in from another network?  It might be as
simple as a machine on the network that he's on with the same IP address
as
your mail server (assuming that you're using numbers in the private
range).

He is trying to work via the VPN
I disabled the Internet Firewall service in Windows XP so I don't think
it is
on - he is a very challenged user so asking him to check it while he is
on
the road doesn't work. I also tried to make sure that ICS was not on.

Everyone else on our network is able to connect - no one else is getting
this
problem - doesn't that seem a little strange - like maybe it is a
setting in
