I have a single DC and Exchange only running on it. (one server). 160
users.. non-profit. 1GB ... 500Mhz single processor.

Its a pig. Spend the extra money out of your own bank account if you have
to... it will be worth your sanity when everybody is whining "why is it so
slow".

Actually its really damn fast when nobody is using it.

Simon,
We have about 45 users. We are running two DCs and Exchange 2000 is on one of
the DCs.
The server is a small Pentium II 450 Mhz w/1Gbyte RAM. The server is also a
Terminal Server (application mode, very lightly loaded).
This may not be the best situation, but we are also a small shop and we don't
have a large hardware budget.
The server is running fine. Exchange is running just fine.

All,

By the end of this year my company is expanding to approx 30 users,
currently we are using exchange 2000 SPA on a Windows 2000 SPA Domain
Controller, Reading Microsoft's installation guides / opinion on
Exchange 2000 that you should not really use Exchange on a DC, unless
you are only a small number of users (less than 10) you should ideally
use a separate server for all your exchange needs.

But to do this I need to convince my MD! Can anybody point me in the
right direction to advantages / disadvantages of using exchange server
on a DC with 30 user (or above 10) and using exchange on a separate box.

Any opinion or sites / books to read would be grateful

Simon Whale
