Microsoft Backup Not Clearing Logs

I am running backups on an exchange 2003 - Win Servers 2003 System,
using the Built in Win 2003 backup program which does seem Exchange
aware. However the exchange logs just seem to be accumulating. I thought
they should be cleared out when I run a backup. Any one have an idea why
this is happening
