We are using Exchange 5.5, but I think that this can apply to all
versions...

I am not sure what happens to the email that get sent to the distribution
list, such as getting stored somewhere or whether or not the spam source
gets a return receipt.

In addition to Dolly's suggestion, you could set limits on the account such
as incoming and outgoing size limits of zero to make sure that nothing gets
stored on your server.

You can create a distribution list with no members in it. To the e mail
address tab and add the SMTP addresses for all that 5 non existing
accounts. Go to the advanced tab and hide this DL from GAL.
Remember - DO NOT ADD ANY MEMBER TO THIS DL.

Is the spam mails are coming from a same domain or
different domain?
