Just giving some more details about the problem that I'm still working on since
last week. I had to reboot the server after apply Microsoft patch and I got
this message among others that I saw before, but I save at this time to see if
will be helpful

No action is required, unless there is another symptop related to the
network stack. Appletalk is not a required protocol for Exchange, so
you may remove it from the server if it is not needed for any other
purpose. If Appletalk is required, make sure that the computer name is
setup correctly for Appletalk networks.

Okay.. your going to have an issue with SMB signing and Lan Manger based
authentication. Admitmit Mac supports NTLMv2 and SMB signing and this should
solve your problem.
You can also change back your domain security policy to accept Lan manager
authentication and disable SMB signing, however if you did an in place upgrade
from NT 4 to AD it may not work ( At least it did not in my environment ).

Yes! You're about the differences and authentication to join into domain. I'll
download the software and we are in Exchange - on Native Mode (no pre-exchange
2000 Servers) and on AD Domain - Native mode (no pre-Windows 2000 Domain
Controllers)

Well there is a difference between your PC's and your MAC's. I am sure that the
PC's have joined your domain and your users are authenticated to your domain
upon logon. Where as the MAC's are only authenticated locally. Now if you want
to test some thing, download the trial version of ADMITMAC from Thursby
Software http://www.thursby.com/ and see if that resolves your issue.
BTW: Are your DC's running AD 2003 in Native mode?

I thought about this before, but the weird thing is that another user has
Eudora as client running on PC and it is working fine with POP3 and
authetication set on the server (Same screen showed on the article).
Maybe I need to bring my mini MAC and see if changes something, testing
different Vlan and machine maybe will give me another error message or solve
this problem giving more clues, I don't know but this it is driving me nuts,
because I already tested everything that was possible and looks like that I
need to renew or disable some kind of authentication besides the one that you
sent to me and see what happens...

I am sorry that I can't send you a screen capture as I do not have any MAC's in
my current environment, however each mail client has a menu to enable SMTP
authentication on send. You can also turn this feature off on your Exchange
server, however your server will then act as a mail relay so unless you have a
Sendmail server or some type of server in front of your Exchange servers that
talks to the outside world this is probably not a good idea. If you decide to
do so for troubleshooting purposes take a look at this link.

Yes! All machines are connected to the network and the ports
(80,110,143) are ok and maybe others too. Is there any authentication level
that I need to take a look on the Exchange server or setting that needs to be
done?

Hi Hermano,
If you can't even telenet to the smtp port on the server then my guess is that
you have a network problem. Is this happenuing on all your Remote MAC clients?
Can your MAC clients on your internal LAN connect? How is your firewall
configured are you allowing PORT 110 and 143 incoming?

I also tried in different situation like POP and IMAP, I believe that one it is
working with Entourage using IMAP, but she it out of control with her folder
space and I need to cut that, but the others that are trying to use POP it is
the one that isn't working specialy sending messages.

First of all, thanks for your replies! Well, maybe I'm wrong, but I
tested reverse DNS and different ways and using different tools and it is
working fine answering my requests, but when I use Telnet to test the 25 port
it is the problem with timeout and it's working with PC's fine.
For those non domain members, is there any particular settings or
service that I need to checked? The reason that I'm, this question it is
because was working fine before and the only thing that might happened could be
the latest patches applied related with security issues from Microsoft.
All PC's are autenthicated when we are setting them for the first time,
but MAC's we have not done anything with it.
I assume that Entourage it is the last version but all MAC are running
Tiger OS.

Oh.. one more thing the Tech at the Apple store is correct you do have to
enable SMTP based authentication to send on the mail client ( That is the
default setting with Exchange 2000 and 2003 ). But that would be required with
all Mac and PC based clients that are non domain members and are not using
Outlook in MAPI mode.

This is just a guess but it sounds like your having an issue with reverse DNS
lookups. I have used MAC OS 9-10.3 with an Exchange 2000 and 2003 server and
have not had the issues that you are having. I am also assuming that your using
POP or IMAP on the MAC clients. If your using MAPI in Entourage what version
are you running?

Hi Everyone,
I'm dealing with a weird situation involving some Mac units using Entourage
or even Mail 1.3.9 as client and I got different messages all the time. All
three machines are behind the firewall as well as our Exchange server, so it is
using the same range of private IP address 10.X.X.X . For some unknown reason
when I telnet the Exchange Server using these MAC, I got timeout message, but
using PC it is ok and also we do have other Eudora Client (PC) and it is
working fine, only with MAC.
The messages are:
1- The attempt to read data from the server "10.x.x.x." failed. Mail 1.3.9
V (619)
2- Finger Connection Refused
3- Connection Closed by Foreign Host
4- Error - This message could not be delivered and will remain in your
outbox until it can be delivered
+ Ok Microsoft Exchange 2000 POP Server Version 6.0.6603.0 (<server
name>) Ready!
Any clue, thoughts, advises or whatever will be really appreciated!
PS. All message related above I already tried to found some reasons, but
Microsoft website and others known forums doesn't give me an specific clue.
Someone from an Apple store was saying that the machine needs to be
authenticated on the server, and I'm not sure if I need to have any appletalk
plug-in or any service from exchange needs to be active, because was working
before and suddenly start to quit one by one.
