More information. I ignored and clicked through the errors and got to where
I saw messages in the OAB Version 2 folder. It then wanted me to locate the
message where the PR_OAB_MESSAGE_CLASS (ptag 68030003) property is set to
0x1. There were 4 messages in the OAB Version 2 folder and I couldn't find
PR_OAB_MESSAGE_CLASS anywhere.

Okay. Found the utility and ran it. I am referencing Microsoft KB 811870
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811870. When I get to step 12 and
double-click the OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK, I get a pop-up that says:
m_lpFolder->GetContentsTable:MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED twice and then:
m_lpEntry->GetProps():MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED
I looked up the MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED and it suggested to check the size of the
mailbox. On the outside chance there was mail in the box, I did check the
mailbox of the account I used to run MDBVU32 and found the following email:
"A folder design conflict has occurred in "OAB Version 2". The design of
this folder has been modified on two or more folder replicas. Only the set
of changes made last have been saved."
dated on October 17th. I wasn't working on the server at that time.
We have one Exchange server and one server that runs Unity (voicemail) which
has an installation of Exchange on it, but the primary server is the one
without the voicemail. So if the set of changes made last have been saved
(whatever in the heck those were), can it be deleted or overwritten?

When I try to generate an offline address book, Exchange comes back and says
that it was successful, but when I look at the public folder resources and
check the offline address book it says 0 bytes.
I did a search on the 5.5 Exchange CD and couldn't find the utility. Will
the utility on the Exchange 2000 CD work on 5.5 as well?

Nothing changed? No IISLOCKDOWN or URLSCAN installed?
Can you regenerate the OAB? What happens when you try?
MDBVU32 is a utility that comes on the Exchange 2000 cd and I believe it
also comes on the 5.5 server as well.

Thanks for the reply, Al. Not sure what you want with the first question,
but I'll try to be as concise as possible.
I checked the properties for the public folders and the OAB Version 2 is in
the instances folder. The client permissions for the under the folders
EX:/o=Organization/ou=Site, OAB Version 2, which is the OFFLINE ADDRESS
BOOK, and OAB Version 2 folders, have client permissions of owner for the
exchange administration account and reviewer for anonymous. There is nothing
under the OAB Version 2 folder. I found an article that said to use
Mdbvu32.exe to locate the Offline Address Book, but I'm running 5.5 and this
program doesn't appear to be on that CD.
Laptop users just get an error message in the synchronization log for the
Offline Address Book when they try to do a full synchronization:

This was working up until Thursday when I became aware of it. I haven't
made any changes

What exactly is the setting on the Exchange server? There's more buttons
than that, but curious what you have setup.
Also, what happens when you remove the OAB from the laptop user and then try
to download again?
Was this working before and then stopped? If so, what changed???

Forgive the reposting, but up until this morning I would have considered no
reponses the result of no one else having the answer either. Now I have to
question whether my question is "too basic" to be answered by those more
experienced than I. Can anyone provide a suggestion on where to proceed,

For some reason my laptop users are unable to download the offline address
book. After trying, when they open it, it is blank. I have selected in
Exchange to have the OAB generated from the Global Address book, that didn't
work. I have also created another recipients container and pointed OAB
generation to that container, still no go. Running Exchange 5.5SP4 on Win2K
server. Could the OAB on the server be corrupt, and is there a way to
deleted the OAB that was generated on the server and recreate it? I can
find nothing on this subject except deleting OABs on the laptops themselves,
nothing on the OAB generated on the server.
