Check...
Disk space, CPU usage/process usage, memory usage, event log
(thoroughly), extremely large mailboxes, when is the last time server
was rebooted? Bottom line: your server has finite resources, so
something is taking a bigger piece of pie then it should, or something
is malfunctioning. Use the tools provided with Windows to see what is
using up those resources.
