Is the process for configuring an IM server the same for an Intranet and
over the Internet. Do you thinj there are any special ports to open on a
router to let the IM protocol go through. From a friend's server, I get
that the service is temporarily unavailable.

Jeff,

Did you install IM when you installed Exchange?, if not, run the
Exchange setup and select to install the IM Service.

i'm investigating setting up the instant messaging server on our
intranet. I've looked at some of the tutorials on the msexchange
website, but for the life of me, can't seem to figure out how to install
the im server. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks

Jeff
