What are your settings currently at in both the av client for windows and the
exchange option? I have been using it for a couple of years now without any
problems.

Have you installed Etrust 7 admin anywhere on the network? I have seen this
program actually change the default rules associated with etrust 6 clients.
Etrust 7 was a nightmare for the first 2 months we had it... things have evened
out now mostly because CA had us fix the problems by replacing dll's in the 7.0
av client with ones from the 6.0 av client.

I purchased/installed the Exchange email option last year and it has been
running fine until last month. I went through all the changes made since it
stopped, including the MS 823890 update, uninstalling, etc. and nothing is
working. I am hoping the upgrade to 7.0 will work.

In the interim, thank goodness, I have MailMarshal and am blocking and
scanning files from there.

I'm not sure exactly what your problem is? Is Inoculan "specifically" for
Exchange server is it for file-level scanning and it has a "tick" to scan
email? If that latter is the case, you NEED to go out an buy an email server
scanning product yesterday. The only way you can get accurate virus
detection with Exchange is to use a AV product specifically designed to
integrate into Exchange. There are numerous ones out there but you need to
make sure that you're running a file-level scanning software on your exchange
in addition to an Exchange email av software application. Without both,
you're asking for trouble.

On a side note, I'd run from Inoculan as fast as you can. I have never had
anything but *BAD* luck with their products. Trend, Symantec, McAfee are
more "known" names to stick with.

Windows 2000 Server SP3, Exchange 2000 SP2, InoculanIT 6.0.101

Did not notice the Mail Option was not running for InoculanIT 6.0 until
yesterday. I checked the box "Enable Mail Option" and rebooted server (had
to, it wouldn't start, kept stating "Note: Mail Option is not running").
When the server came up, the following service error occurred:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Date: 9/3/2003
Time: 5:22:46 AM
User: N/A
Computer: TSTA-S2
Description:
The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated with
service-specific error 0.

Microsoft states
[http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316650] the
registry setting should be set to 0 (which turns off the Inoculan Mail
Option) and then restart the service -- which worked -- but now the Virus
scanner is not scanning emails!

I have contacted Computer Associates, who is currently trying to duplicate
the problem. In the meantime, I have requested an upgrade CD to 7.0.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
