I have been unable to do offline defrags because my temp and store files are on different partitions, seems to lead to a "streaming" error? Any advice much appreciated. -----Original Message----- From: Ohl, Julie [mailto:J.OHL@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, March 27, 2003 10:32 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Help http://www.MSExchange.org/ That is true. I defragged my public store and reduced the IS size from 11GB to under 1GB. When data is deleted from the IS, the space is not recovered, it is left open. When you do the backup, you will see the actual amount of data that is backed up may not equal your store sizes. To get that unused space back, you must do an offline defrag. We plan on doing offline defrags quarterly. Do you mean to say that Exhange stores blank or unrequired info in the IS and then Defragging IS reduces its size? I do not think you are right about this. please verify. -----Original Message----- From: Juan Ibarra [mailto:jibarra@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, March 14, 2003 12:00 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Help http://www.MSExchange.org/ The problem is that the IS is about 45G in size. I defragged it in October last year bring it down from 48G to 40G. I can't really do any better than that. -----Original Message----- From: Lorie Gordon [mailto:lgordon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 10:26 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Help http://www.MSExchange.org/ Sounds like it might be time to defrag your information store. -----Original Message----- From: Juan Ibarra [mailto:jibarra@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 11:14 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Help http://www.MSExchange.org/ Agree, but I was able to restore fine on one tape only and the catalog only took about 8 minutes. -----Original Message----- From: John Tolmachoff [mailto:jtolmachoff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 9:08 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Help http://www.MSExchange.org/ Might be time to clean the server up to reduce the backup size. I have exchange 5.5 running on windows 2000 Ad. Server. I use veritas back up exec for backups. The problem is that about a week ago my backup started spanning two tapes. It no longer fits in one and I have to insert a second tape. Is a single, external, AIT drive. Now when I try to do a restore to a standby server the catalog job takes about 4 hours and when doing the restore I get a red X on the IS and it tells me that it is corrupted. I never get ask for the second tape which I know has part of the IS. Please help me.
