Hi:

We currently have MX server before the Exchange Server which is a Linux
Box and does the job of Spam and virus cleaning before transferring to
the Exchange Server. We have port 25 open on the firewall of the
Exchange Server as well. The incidence has not just happened for one or
2 mails but atleast 20-25 mails spread across the month of Feb and
March. However the strange part is that it has not affected all the old
mails but just a few. To share some more information some mails were
delivered twice while others were only delivered on the restart of the
server. Also in couple of cases the mails have reached 2 recipients but
failed to reach the third which only received on the rebooting of the
server.

Thanks & Regards

A key question to ask.

Do you have an smtp relay between your excnahge server and your
firewall.? If so you might have encountered a transfer error, But I am
inclinded to think that time was just a mail which got looped and stuck
in the queue. I have senn this happen before were malformed mails get
stuck in smtp queue, and get flushed on restart of server.

        -------------------------------------------------------Dear All:

        I am using Exchange 2003 SP2 + Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition
as Exchange
Server. I have another Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server
configured as
        Active Directory Server.

I recently faced a strange issue whereby one of my user has send
a few mails
in the month of March 2007 which just got delivered yesterday
after I
rebooted the server after applying Windows Critical patches.
However the
strange part is when I check for the message in the Tracking
Centre it
showed that it was submitted to the SMTP Queue in March
immediately when the
message was sent and staying there until it got flushed and
delivered on
rebooting the server. This happened with quite a few messages in
March 2007.

It is strange in nature as it stayed in the SMTP queue without
even
attempting to make a SMTP connection. I am failing to understand
as how can
this happen. Can anyone help us troubleshoot the same.

        Thanks & Regards
