I'm logged into the exchange server locally with the Exchange Admin tools on that server. I see what your saying but not sure how to fix.

I'm in the middle of a network migration to 2003 on new boxes so before I install the 2003 server I made all other servers stand alone except for the old pdc which became a bdc when I promoted a new box to a PDC.

Do you not have local rights to the machine? Probably not since it was a
BDC and is now a stand-alone server. Exchange 5.5 requires particular
rights to access over the network at the OS level and you likely made that
change at a domain level where it applied to all BDC's.

Been so long, I no longer remember the exact rights required, but that often
clears up the issue. :)

I demoted my Exchange server from a BDC to a stand alone in the domain now I
can't use the Exchange admin. I open exchange admin and try to connect to
my server I get an error saying "You do not have the permissions required to
complet the operation. Microsoft Exchange Directory ID no:
DS_E_INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS_RIGHTS"
