If you are familiar with active directory and the basics behind email and colaboration suites perhaps a few days with your nose in a book might get you ready for it, just make sure there won't be an issue with the boss when you have to buy an incident from MicroSoft. What do them things run nowadays, about $350? In any case upgrades and migrates are not "urgent".
