The point of having a VPN tunnel is to prevent the port passing of a regular client. The idea is a one to one tunnel that essentially can allow your desktop to become a remote node to the rest of the network it VPN's to. You only open the ports and protocols to the VPN endpoint depending on what protocols you want to use.
