Check the following:
double click connectors
right click your outgoing SMTP connector select properties
select address space tab
make sure you do NOT have the "allow messages to be relayed to these
domains" box ticked if you have a wild card smtp address i.e. SMTP *

Have fun

Just a thought...

Perhaps it was adding the local IP subnet that is still allowing the
relaying. I'm assuming of course that your server is behind a firewall
or
proxy of sorts. Depending on the configuration of the firewall/proxy,
the
SMTP server may only be seeing the internal IP address of your firewall
and
therefore it would allow the relaying. You could turn on logging of the
SMTP protocol, or sit at the console and do some "NETSTAT"s to see what
connections are being made (if you know you have a lot of inbound
internet
email) to determine this. That would tell you for sure the source IP
the
server is seeing.

I think the best idea was to leave the defaults. If you do need
unauthenticated relaying (say for network management-type email alerts)
then
you should specify on the IP address of that server. Certainly don't
specify the firewall as an IP to allow relaying though...

Graham

What have you done to the relay option, by default Exchange 2000 does
not relay for unauthenticated users.

All

I am in need of some urgent help please.

I have a windows 2000 server with exchange 2000 (both SP2). I have
enabled the SMTP Virtual Server so that it does not relay. However, my
ISP is telling me that it is still open. I have published the server
through ISA 2000 SP1. Is ISA causing the problem by opening it up???

Once I have the relaying issue sorted, I need to install Norton for
Gateways. Has anyone else had any problems with installing this. I
have stopped all the exchange and SMTP services to make port 25
available when I install. However, after the install, I am unable to
telnet to port 25.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
