Thanks Dêniz,

We have only one ms exchange server and one domain on a single site.

Thank you for your additional advice which I shall follow.

Regards

David S.

Its important to know if you have other MS Exchange Server using the
same
account.

To find out if the admin account is the same account Exchange is using,
go
to control panel, services and look at the MS Exchange Services to see
which
account the services are using.

Hi David,

You could manually create a new user eg Exchange, and give it the "logon
as
a service" right and member of the administrators group. Once you have
done
that, modify your Exchange services to logon as the Exchange user. That
way, when the exchange services start, it will start with the newly
created
username and not depend on the administrator's account. Test to see if
it
work, and if it does, (it should) go ahead and change he administrator's
password.

Regards

Mark

Thanks Dêniz.

I changed the NT4 administrator password and was unable to start
exchange until I changed it back again. Does that mean I am using the
same log in? (I have inherited a poorly documented system!!).
If so, what is the best way of resolving the problem as I do need to
change the administrator password?

Regards

David S.

If the NT4 login administrator is not the same login which is
running MS Exchange Services, there is no problem at all.

Dear all,

Is the answer the same for exchange 5.5 running on Windows NT4.
Can I change the NT4 administrator password or will this cause problems
with exchange server 5.5?

Regards
