Whitespace. Previously used space stays in the database. Unless you have a need to do an offline defrag (and based on the information you've presented here, I wouldn't say that you do), don't do one. ________________________________ From: Rich Gallo [mailto:RGallo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, January 19, 2006 2:42 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] Database Size question Sensitivity: Private http://www.MSExchange.org/ I was comparing the size of my database backups to my mailbox level backups and I found a discrepancy of about 10 Gigs (Database is 35 GB Mailboxes are 25 GB). Is there some kind of overhead to the database that I am missing?? Should I do an offline defrag of the stores? Just curious, nothing earth shattering J Thanks!!! Also, there usually aren't many log files because I do a full backup every night and also each day an Incremental is done every two hours. In other words, I don't believe log files account for the difference. ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange <http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist%0bExchange> Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp ------------------------------------------------------ Visit TechGenix.com for more information about our other sites: http://www.techgenix.com ------------------------------------------------------ You <http://www.techgenix.com%0b-------------------------------------------- ----------%0bYou> are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: michael@xxxxxxxxxx To <mailto:michael@xxxxxxxxxx%0bTo> unsubscribe visit http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Report <http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist%0bReport> abuse to info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
