Sizing: Depends on expected work load. How many messages / hour /24 hours /
Disk is probably the biggest contributor to SMTP traffic on these servers,
but it doesn't have to be much hardware if not a tremendous amount of
traffic (less than 25Kb each and less than 600,000 per 24 hours)

Configuration steps: Deploy second Exchange server. Select to make it a
front-end server. Configure inbound mail flow to be directed to new server.
Create SMTP connector. Select Front-end server as the MTA for that
connector. Verify it works as expected in between.

Subject: [exchangelist] Create an SMTP gateway

Our organization has one Exchange 2000 Server. I'd like to set up an SMTP
gateway for this Exchange server to help take the load off of it.

I'm looking for sizing recommendations on the SMTP gateway, and I'm looking
for a step-by-step cookbook on how to configure the SMTP server and the
Exchange server.
