GFI Mail Essentials for spam filtering seems to be the product recommended by the forum. I have not knowledge of ISA as we use hardware firewalls which seem to do the trick and enable remote access where required by VPN. Personally the only AV product I like is by SOPHOS not only because they're based in the UK, tel. support is excellent (24hrs) product is excellent and fairly easy to install and maintain. There is an Anti Spam component recently introduced to their software called Pure Message but don't have any experience of it's use. and.........make sure you get rid of those old 100mb hubs as well and replace with decent fast switches. I had asked too many questions on the list and I thought I would redirect this one. I have no doubt about the technical knowledge / expertise of the members in the group. My original message was: I need some advice. I have just been asked to restructure / redisign our network including making recomendations for new software. I have the Following ideas; Server: MS Windows 2003 Email Svr: MS Exchange 2003 Firewall: MS ISA 2004 Coorp Antivirus: Symantec Coorp Edition (The latest) What I am not sure about is content filtering and malicious code blocking and trojans and all those worms. Would ISA be able to stop this. I am still doing research on these products but would Exchange 2003 also stop spam?? Is there something I am also forgetting to pay attention to?? Dont worry about the hardware and budget. I would like if possible to stick to Microsoft and Norton Products -----Original Message----- From: Greg Mulholland [mailto:greg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2004 12:42 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Contacting You Of List http://www.MSExchange.org/ was there a question in your post or were you just looking for recommendations. You will need to a little more specific on what the restructure will involve, i.e. money, support staff, existing gear etc. No one will be able to give you any useful recommendations unless you know what you need to achieve and what resources you have to achieve it. In Johns defence, not that he needs it. It can be somewhat fruitless asking these sorts of questions off the list. If John is away for a week then you will never get a response. By posting to the list two things happen. You increase your chances of having a response to your question, as people like me (at the other end of the world) are awake when others are sleeping. Secondly, you will get a wider range of opinions and a "vaster" array of qualified answers. No doubt you respect Johns knowledge and "email approachability" as I and many others do but I can assure you there are many many knowledgeable and helpful people who can help on this list. Forgetting that, send us some information about your goals and objectives for the network you want to design and people will help you no doubt. As others have like wise said, I do not take question such as this off list. We help others on the list as we are able to and provided we have the time. If I were to stop and respond to anyone who asked for advice, I would not have time for doing the work I get paid to do. Please ask your questions on the list.
