Configuring Ms. Exchange server to receiving and sending email

In my office I have ms. exchange server connected with the ISA server,
honestly I'm new in this field, can you helping me by telling me how to
configure ms.exchange server to receiving and sending mail by it's own?
and how to configure exchange server to working with ISA server? this all
because I'll have a problem with the ISA server ISP (the line often
droped)so I'll have to change the way to sending and receiving mail. I'll
be very happy if someone can help me solving this trouble, many thanks
before.....
