Thanks for the response. Basically the machine was rebuilt following a DR (Complete rebuild and not a /disasterrecovery due to problems with system state backups). * Install order was Windows 2003, E2K3 domainprep, E2K3 install, E2K3 SP1 * Ran DomainPrep but not ForestPrep. The Parent domain is at another site and all communication, replication, etc seems to be happening o.k. I can run System Manager on the Primary Exchange Server at the other site and can access my local Exchange Server without a problem. * Exchange and Windows are running in Mixed Mode for root and child Regards, _______________________ MF ________________________________ From: John Tolmachoff (Lists) [mailto:johnlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, 26 November 2004 11:43 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Can't Install System Manager on Exchange 2003 http://www.MSExchange.org/ So, on this child domain DC, you have installed: Backup Exec 9.1 Trend ScanMail Exchange 2003 What was the install order? Did you run domain prep and forest prep? What mode is the child domain in? What mode is the forest domain in? Is there a Exchange server higher up? Have you tried to connect to the child domain Exchange using that other ESM? Furthermore, I cannot add it in as a snap-in in MMC. I have backup exec 9.1 running on the machine as well as Trend ScanMail for Exchange. Apparantly because System Manager was not installed, the store databases cannot be backed up and Trend will not scan the mailboxes. Apart from that I can do a bricks level backup of the mailboxes with the BE Agent for Exchange. The server is a Domain Controller in a child domain. It has Exchange 2K3 SP1 installed. Any assistance would be greatfully received.
