Thanks Webster,

I have the agent installed and im backing up the Mailbox Store and the
Information store - its when i do the backup of the partition with the
actual priv pub databases - for example D:\program
files\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.log. I get "in use - skipped".

So am i covered by this then?

Are you using the Exchange Agent also?

Must not be using the Exchange Agent.

Without the Exchange Agent - yes.
With the Exchange Agent - no.

NO!!! Buy the Exchange Agent and use it to backup your Information
Store. It will also backup all the ancillary files and clean them up
after a successful full backup.
