That depends on a lot of things; but what you are seeing sounds like
\\server\server.log has permissions set on the share such that you
cannot access it. The permissions just need to be "read". However,
depending on your forest configuration, you may not have the proper
permissions to get there.

Using Exchange Server 2003 SP1 on Windows 2003 SP1
I have installed ESM on my workstation and when I go to the Message
tracking Centre to search I get this error.
I am a domain admin.

What permissions are required on in ESM for the Exchange Servers.
