Hi Marco,

That seems highly unusual. You can check in the event log for the nightly
on-line defrag report which will state how much whitespace (free) you have.
That should be the amount you can reclaim with an offline defrag.

Check your command line options for the defrag, and remember that you need 110%
of the size of the DB you are doing in freespace on the drive or another
volume. Maybe it dumped out with an error?

Jamie.

Marco, there are two options I can think of immediately. There may be more
depending on the circumstances.

You're runnning into that problem because you don't have the enterprise version
of Exchange with (virtually) unlimited database size. You could upgrade to the
enterprise version (I'm assuming Exchange 2000 or later).

Another option you have is to reduce the database size and run off-line
defragmentation to reclaim the space.

I'd pick the first option if were me. It would make more sense and be the
least painful to you and the users.

mdadata directory) are 16,1 GB and i get almost every 2 weeks the message that
the DB is to big (16,8 GB) and the exchangeserver will not work till i delete
something.

but with this deleting the DB doesnt apearse to get smaller :-(

what options i got to...

...see how big is everything (in detail, not only the 4 files) ...make the DB
smaller ...prevent to not get this error sometime again
