Monthly Public Star
Party
Friday night, June 8th is the monthly free Public Star Party! An informal
come-as-you-are event, stay as little or as long as you wish. We will start
around 7:30 pm.
1. Bring your telescope or mounted binoculars to provide views to club members
and the public!
2. No scope? Come look through club members scopes at various objects! Lots
to look at; Beehive Cluster, Venus, Jupiter, a rising Saturn, and the StarGate
Cluster to name a few.
3. Ask questions of the operators about their telescopes. This can be very
helpful if you are thinking about buying a telescope, to be able to get other
perspectives and opinions.
4. Have an old telescope sitting around in a closet somewhere? Bring your
new-to-you telescope and we will help you set it up and get you going. Please

what kind of scope you'll be bringing.
The Sun sets around 7:35 pm and astronomical twilight is at 9:17 pm. The
waning moon has already set at 2:14 pm.
Also Friday night is Skywatch, an interesting hour long astronomical talk at
the library next door at 7:30 pm <x-apple-data-detectors://7>(voluntary
donations are appreciated).
The Gilbert Rotary Centennial Observatory and the 16" telescope will be
available, weather permitting from dusk till about 9:30 pm.
The public star party is located at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch. Take
the US 60 freeway to Greenfield Road <x-apple-data-detectors://10>, go south to
Guadalupe Road. From the intersection of Greenfield and Guadalupe Roads, head
east, but get in the right hand lane. The Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is
the 3rd driveway from the intersection (the first two driveways go into the
parking lot of the Southeast Library, where the lecture is held).
