Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow in Corpus-based
Lexicography & Academic Writing at the Centre for Translation Studies,
School of English and Languages, University of Surrey. The position is for
3 years, starting in mid-February 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Candidates should have a PhD in Applied Linguistics or related area, with
experience of corpus-based lexicography and academic writing research,
native or near-native knowledge of English, good organisational skills,
experience in creating and managing databases, and a background in one or
more of the following areas: corpus-based lexicography, learner corpora,
second language writing, English for Academic Purposes, experimental work
with language learners. Additionally, you should be able to work
independently and as part of a research team, and be willing to collaborate
remotely with different members of the project, as well as in face-to-face
interactions. Familiarity with Sketch Engine would be a plus.
The project will involve close collaboration with a team of researchers
based at the Universities of Surrey and Bangor (UK) and Poznan (Poland),
with expertise in second language writing, corpus-based lexicography,
dictionary use, data visualisation and human-computer interaction.
