Etai,

We are interested in opening an English tutoring program for adults of
low socio- economic stature in our congregation in Talpiot, Jerusalem.

Established 2003, Yotzer-Or has striven to build a congregation
relating to and dealing with challenges in Israeli society in the
areas of education, welfare and Jewish identity.

 Through its programs, Yotzer Or aims to promote a spirit of
collective action and cooperation in the Talpiot neighborhood of
Jerusalem, thereby creating a congregation that plays a greater role
in children's and adult’s education, and in strengthening the family
unit. The working process aims at breaking the circle of poverty both
practically and mentally, and offers a holistic set of activities for
congregants.

Yotzer Or is unique in that it addresses the needs of families of low
socio-economic backgrounds, while creating a community centered on
common interests, and mutual care. This delicate interplay between
both individuals' needs and collective action facilitates significant
empowerment and sustainable change in the neighborhood. Within seven
years Yotzer Or has successfully launched more than 15 long-term
programs and has run numerous short-term activities. Affiliated with
The Masorti (conservative) Movement in Israel, Yotzer or has monthly
congregational gatherings including Musical Kabalat Shabat, Holidays
celebration, Jerusalem tours & cooking events.

The English tutoring will give our congregants basic abilities in
spoken English for use at their work-place, for helping their kids
with homework, and for understanding English Media. We believe
understanding, speaking and eventually reading and writing English
will enable including English language in employment upgrading
requests and for work related opportunities.

The Program will serve the Yotzer Or adults, between 10 and 15
participants. Based on past experience, we propose a tutoring program
which is based on a one-on-one learning sessions of 90 min once a
week.

Tutors for the program will be from AACI.

I turn to ETAI since we are currently looking for a volunteer who is a
professional English teacher and will be able to give educational
guidelines to our volunteers concerning teaching English to Hebrew
speakers.
