Subject: reflection
When my pupils turn in their portfolios, I require them to write a
reflection about their experiences as an English pupil (from 3rd grade till
12th). Here's a succinct one from a very creative young man.
What have I learned in English? I learned about capital letters and
grammar, typing from left to right and adverbs, adjective and nouns (what a
boring word) and more. I invented a new 'r' and I discovered new words that
had already been discovered by others.
I met frustrated students (and frustrated teachers, too). I encountered new
challenges that I overcame (book reports especially) and I realized what the
importance of languages is: connecting people and culture to each other.
And on that emotional note, I will close the door on my English experience
from A to Z.
