----- Original Message ----- From: "Shoshana Ben-Yaakov" <aryeben@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: magen tests As far as I know, a student sitting for his/her bagrut exams internally (i.e. while in high school) must be given an annual grade before taking the exam. A mock exam, if carried out properly does give the students a chance to sit for an exam that emulates real bagrut exams - including the format, the time pressure, the large crowd of students surrounding him. LD students also get a chance to be tested by someoine other than their class teachers (those how are tested orally), etc. And yes, according to the ministry's instructions, the mock exam grade (or the average several such exams) may consist up to 30% of the students' annual mark. Giving grades based only on class work, homework or even class exams is not justified. Futhermore, we know that some students do take some last minute responsibility and study seriously for a mock exam. If they succeed and gain 30% of their annual ,ark - why deprive them of it? Of course, schools have to be carefull to administer the mock exams properly, give grades according to the ministry's instructions (and not be persuaded by students' parents, principlas, etc)to either give unjustified grades or polished ones and then be surprised if and when there are discrepencies.
