It is true that I taught many years ago, but I never thought of being
remunerated for the extra things I did to make English more fun in the
school. I spent many extra hours on the English drama group, the choir, the
English library, and the school English newspaper. In fact I was surprised
when one of the Hebrew teachers said she would produce a Hebrew newspaper if
she were paid for it. I am sure there are dozens if not hundreds of teachers
today who do not expect to be paid for these extra hours. I realise that the
demands made on English teachers are much much greater today, so perhaps
that is why the question has arisen. It's a pity.
