According to the curriculum one of the goals of teaching literature is to expose students to the English speaking culture OUTSIDE of Israel that is foreign to them. Expose them to British, American, Australian, South African culture through stories and novels. For this reason I, too, do not see the value of including the disengagement novel as English literature for the bagrut. Just my two pennies! Judi G.
