I would like to reply to Avi regarding book reports. I know that a person is to supposed to give another person the benefit of the doubt, but, in this case, I would tend to think that the weaker students had a lot of outside help. I don't know if doing the book report in class is a good suggestion, because that might take up valuable class time. It might be possible to give them the general idea of how to do it in class and the students fill in the rest at home. In my very brief experience, I have discovered that many of the students to not have good vocabulary skills nor do they know how to write even a simple sentence. Much less, speak English... Very discouraging...
