*Project: Dust generation and composition from the Great Salt Lake Playa*
*Responsibilities:* The successful candidates will assist with ongoing
research projects and contribute specifically to examining the spatial and
temporal variability in dust composition, generation, and transport from
the Great Salt Lake (GSL) playa. Increasing consumptive water use in
combination with drought is driving the GSL to the lowest levels seen in
over 160 years, exposing vast areas of lakebed to erosion and entrainment.
The GSL is surrounded by a large population center making increased dust
entrainment as well as dust composition of high concern. The successful
candidates will have opportunities to develop their own ideas within the
broader context of the project.
We are recruiting across broad levels of experience with potential to fill
MSc, PhD, or Project Manager positions.
*Minimum Qualifications:*
- Analytical laboratory experience
- Ability to conduct fieldwork
- Demonstrated ability to write peer-reviewed papers and grants.
*Preferred Qualifications*
- Strong interest and experience in biogeochemistry
- Proficiency in statistical computing software
- Experience with analytical procedures in the following areas, major
nutrients, anions, and cations in freshwaters, sediment core analyses, and
extraction of organic contaminants from environmental samples
- Interest in communicating with diverse stakeholders

*Graduate Research Assistantships in Forest Soils*The Oregon State
University Forest Engineering, Resources & Management (FERM) Department
awards 3-5 new fellowships to MS and PhD students each year. Fellowships
are awarded in each of the department’s areas of concentration (AOC). We
are seeking applications to our Forest Soils and Watershed Management AOC.
Fellowships include a full tuition waiver, a competitive annual stipend
including summer support, and associated benefits for 2 (MS) or 3 (PhD)
years.
Students awarded the fellowships will be responsible for completing course
work, developing a project, collecting data and samples from the field,
analyzing samples in the laboratory, data analyses, preparing progress
reports, presenting results at a regional and/or national conferences,
preparing and preparing a thesis and manuscript(s) for publication. The
student will also be expected to be involved in other projects within the
research group and department thereby providing them with a broad range of
experience and opportunities to collaborate.
Potential Starting Dates: July 1, 2019 -September, 2019
Fellowships are awarded to the top applicants interested in studying under
a FERM Department faculty member. To be eligible for a fellowship to study
prospective students need to:
