Day 25 Doctor: Dr. Jamieson E. Jones Nurses: Leah (night), Stacey (day) RT: Yvonne (day) Gestational age: 32 3/7 weeks Weight: 1506 g Length: 40 cm (5/5/14) FiO2: 33% Flow: 2 LPM on HFNC Feeding: 28 ml Q 3 hr. (24 cal breast milk with 1 ml liquid protein added.) through NG tube. PO multivitamin and caffeine. New orders: begin weaning HFNC .5L q 12hr as tolerated. Other issues: left lung ongoing PIE Other notes: resting mostly on left side or prone, little to no residuals, elimination good (so much poop!) Enzo had a quiet and uneventful night of rest on Monday night. Tuesday morning we found Enzo sound asleep and preparing to be fed. Kelly held Enzo through his morning feeding. Today was MUCH better than yesterday, with only a couple of significant apnea spells. Everyone was pleased with Enzo's progress, including his doctor who told us "I don't need to see you"... exactly what we want to hear right now. Enzo will have his nasal canula reduced to a lower flow rate at some point late today. When we left he was at 2 liters per minute and 30% oxygen. He will be tested at 1.5 liters per minute and the respiratory therapist will see how much the O2 percentage needs to be increased to keep his blood oxygen saturation up. If everything works out, then he will remain at the lower flow rate. All of these steps are moving us toward the point where he won't need any oxygen support. As his left lung grows and heals his breathing is becoming easier (as long as he remembers to breathe). In closing, I will offer that if Enzo's weight is not significantly higher tomorrow, it will likely be due to the large amount of dirty diapers he produced today... It's amazing what can fit into such a tiny creature!
