It seems like yesterday, and it seems like a lifetime since we last wrote to tell you about Enzo and his progress. We apologize for the radio silence these last few months. Kelly & Phillip have been busy for some reason! We are happy to report that Enzo is doing great and getting stronger and healthier every day. He's been accepted into the county's Early Steps program, and Vanessa visits twice a month. While here, she gives us new exercises to work with him on and makes sure that he's staying on track developmentally. So far, so good! He's also had his first appointment with his pediatric ophthalmologist, and his eyes are developing totally normally. July found us in the high desert, getting to know Enzo's dad's side of the family. The second half of the summer saw Enzo finally starting to travel beyond Southern California. For his first time in the sky, Kelly sat in back with him while his dad piloted the plane. In spite of all his early lung damage, he had no problem keeping his blood-oxygen saturation up in the high 90's well above 7,000'. After receiving his passport the first week of August, Enzo and his parents hitched a ride up to British Columbia with Kelly's folks in their client's Citation so that we could be there to celebrate Enzo's cousin Renate's 90th birthday. On the way, we stopped by the Bay Area and got to introduce him to so many of his friends and relations. Then, at the end of the month, we took another trip in the jet, this time to Houston to celebrate his great-great aunt Hattie Tee's 100th birthday. There have been a bunch of milestone's since Enzo first came home. He's now sleeping in his own room and only waking twice a night for feedings. Just on the cusp of being mobile, he's rolling back and forth in his crib with no difficulty. It's only a matter of time before he gets the knack of it while awake. On the other hand, he has no interest in crawling. He prefers to "walk", holding onto Mom or Dad for balance. It has become clear that Enzo is a budding outdoorsman. He would rather be outside no matter the weather (or heat)! If he's ever fussy, we can always take him out in the stroller or on a blanket, and he is completely rapt by nature and its constant variety. We've also enjoyed introducing Enzo to the pool. Thanks to our glorious desert sunshine, we are able to go swimming with him most days. Every day Enzo shows us something new and exciting. We are very happy to be able to share these times with him!
