SUSTAINABLE CAMPUSES PROJECT COMMITTEE APPLICATION FORM
**PLEASE GIVE US YOU APPLICATION BEFORETHE END OF OCTOBER**

WHAT IS THE SUSTAINABLE CAMPUSES PROJECT?
The Sustainable Campuses Project is a national youth directed initiative that
inspires, informs, trains, and supports Canadian students promoting social and
environmental responsibility and sustainability in post-secondary
institutions. The Sustainable Campuses Project was not only founded to change
environmental and social practices on university campuses but also aims to
empower youth with information, and skills to influence decision makers. A
campus provides a scale for students to address ecological and social problems
in which concrete actions can be achieved. Through this direct experience,
meaningful involvement, and positive reinforcement, youth gain the confidence
and will to influence decision-making beyond their campus, for example in
municipal, provincial or federal government policy.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT COMMITTEE (PROCOM)?
The PROCOM is a group of about 10 to 12 post-secondary students who are
responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of the regional and
Nation Action Plans. Their responsibility includes: attending the PROCOM
conference calls, reporting successes as well as challenges, networking with
regional students and groups, and being a central contact in their regions.
The PROCOM may also be involved with some resource development.

Å AVAILABILITY AND COMMITMENT

Before you fill out your application, please take a look at this section to
understand what is expected of PROCOM members.

The PROCOM member is a year-long position (October 2004 - October 2005). The
PROCOM meets once a month over conference call. These calls are very important
as they are the only way for the PROCOM to touch-base and meet as a unified
group. The calls are usually 1h to 1h30min long. From May to September, calls
may happen more frequently as the PROCOM helps organize the Sustainable
Campuses Conference (2005 location to be decided) or in a need-basis.

During the calls, members will discuss the development of their Regional
Action Plans (developed at the conference), assist and support each other and
check the development of the National Action Plan. Members will also update
the goals of the project in a need-basis.

The PROCOM members play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Regional and
National Action Plan is being followed. He/she is responsible for tracking any
challenges and barriers that are preventing the development of the Regional
Action Plan and for discussion ways of overcoming these barriers with the
National Coordinator and PROCOM.

As a PROCOM member you may also choose to represent SYC in regional and
national events, conferences and meetings.
