U OF T SUSTAINABILITY OFFICE NOW LOCATED IN EARTH SCIENCES CENTRE
The Institute for Environmental Studies would like to welcome the new U
of T Sustainability Office, which has recently moved into two IES
offices in
the Earth Sciences Centre: 1047A and 1048A (5 Bancroft Avenue entrance).
Under the direction of the inaugural Sustainability Director, Beth
Savan, of Innis College, its mission is to dramatically decrease the
University's use of energy and, therefore, its greenhouse gas emissions.
Currently sharing the two offices are:

In June 2004, the University of Toronto was awarded the second largest
grant ever provided by the Toronto Atmospheric Fund (TAF) to develop the
University's Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction Strategy and establish
a Sustainability Office on the St. George Campus. The development of the
Sustainability Office and the Strategy is a joint undertaking and
involves the City of Toronto and U of T's Environmental Protection
Advisory Committee; Student Administrative Council; Vice-President,
Business Affairs; and Vice-Provost, Space and Facilities Planning. The
direction and implementation of the Sustainability Office and the
Strategy is under the guidance of Beth Savan, the inaugural
Sustainability Director and Bruce Dodds, Director of Utilities and
Building Operations. Its mission is to dramatically decrease the
University's use of energy and, therefore, its greenhouse gas emissions.
There are ample opportunities for everyone on campus, especially
students, to participate in this exciting initiative.
