Friends,
I have been trying to catch up on photo editing and posting during this busy
holiday season. Here are a few recent photos with comments:
Red-breasted Nuthatch, I see only a few of these each year during late fall and
winter. I've been trying to photograph one perched in a tree but will have to
settle for this shot at my bird bath for now. They don't sit still! 11/6/16,
yard.
Northern or Louisiana Waterthrush? This was spotted by Steve Y. at BLBS on
11/8/16. It has a yellow wash on it's breast which favors the Northern, but
the "bubble gum" colored legs favor the The Louisiana. The bill size and
"eyebrow" are difficult to compare in this photo. What's your take?
Red-shouldered Hawks, I have some resident Red-shouldered Hawks that frequent
my yard, but this is the first time I've seen two perched side-by-side
"chatting". 11/7/16.
Pileated Woodpecker, This one appears very happy foraging on dogwood berries.
I think I can detect a smile on its face. 11/7/16, yard.
Happy Holidays,
Alan LenkAsheville
