Hi Folks,
We had around 20 people show up for the Blue Ridge Audubon walk this past
Saturday at Owen Park. As we walked around the ponds, we had nice looks at
a pair of Orchard Orioles. Tree Swallows flew all around us snatching up
insects over the water and occasionally landing at their nest box giving us
lovely views of their iridescent plumage. As we entered the farm fields, we
heard a male Common Yellowthroat singing and got brief looks at him before
he disappeared into the thick edge of early successional forest. A
brilliant male Indigo Bunting showed well several times while we were out
in the fields. As the sun crept higher into the sky, we took refuge from
the heat on the river trail and meandered our way back along the banks of
the Swannanoa River.
Happy Spring,
