I visited Lake Junaluska this morning, it was cold but tolerable due to no
wind, and the lake looked like a mirror. The most interesting waterbirds were
Hooded Merganser and Double-breasted Cormorant swimming together, close looks
at Ring-necked Duck, nice groups of Bufflehead, an a lone Horned Grebe eating
a fish at about 200 feet from the shore. Oh how I wish it would have been
closer for better photos of the grebe maneuvering the fish into its mouth.
There was a whole lot of shakin' going on!
On land there were two warblers, a Yellow-rumped and Palm. The Palm was fairly
close. The regulars were on the lake as well, 50+ Rudy Ducks, and 25+
Pied-billed Grebes, lots of Coots. Some photos are attached of the action.
