Hi all!
As usual, the Balsam Mountains spring count the third weekend in May. Your
team can pick any one day between May 18 and 23 to do your section. This count
covers the Blue Ridge Parkway roughly from a couple miles before the Pisgah Inn
to the end of the parkway on the Smokies as well as some adjacent trails and
wilderness areas. Regulars will get their regular sections. New participants
are welcome! This count requires a lot of walking. Warblers reign supreme in
this area. Anyone interested in doing a second section on a different day is
also welcome to it.
The Black Mountains count will be the 4th weekend in May and teams can pick one
day between May 25-30. Same rules apply to this count as the Balsams. This
count covers the Blue Ridge Parkway from NC 80 to mile 360 at Balsam Gap/Walker
Knob overlook as well as Mt Mitchell SP and some forest roads going down to
Black Mountain campground and some trails. This count also requires lots of
hiking. Lots of high elevation birds on this count.
Anyone interested in doing either or both of these counts please let me know.
Thanks,
Marilyn
