Elmfield Road Street Party 2022
Meeting Thursday 21st May
Feedback from Residents
We surveyed the street to ask if people would like the street party to go
ahead. We received X responses, all of which were positive. Only one
respondent could not make proposed date of Saturday 16th July.
Road Closure and Insurance
Roy has applied for - and received - the official road closure from the
Council for 16th July. It no longer comes with public liability insurance
so Roy has purchased this separately.
Budget and Fundraising
We have £1000 in the kitty. When the council’s Community Ward Funding opens
(anticipated to be May) Nicky will make an application. We will also
organise a raffle. Nicky to draft a letter requesting donations and draw up
a list of local businesses to send it to.
We also had the idea of making and selling an Elfmfield Road tea towel. Jo
to look into this.
The Bar
Cliff has agreed to build the bar, with help from Ken. Cliff will source
materials and will also look into buying hay bales for the pub garden.
Laurence will ask his friend for the carp box to keep the beer cold.
Margaret is happy to buy the stock for the bar again (Martin to share his
spreadsheet). Martin and John are happy to be bar managers but will need a
few volunteers too. Jo and Jenny have said they’d be happy to do the
evening shift again.
Music and Dancing
DJ TBX (Bex, who used to live on Salop Road) has agreed to DJ for the
evening disco. Nicky to talk to Bex about equipment and the idea of a
karaoke half-hour. We should ask people to start thinking about their
‘Guilty Pleasures’ in good time so Bex can add these to her playlist.
It would be great to have some live music or dance performances. Please can
anyone with contacts (e.g. ceilidh band, sword dancing, community dance
group) follow them up?
Games and Competitions
Laurence is happy to organise the kids games (running, sack race etc).
Douglas has volunteered to help and can run petanque. Cliff is happy to
organise the adult games (space hoppers, panto horses, beer goggles etc).
Cliff to speak to Chester Road about borrowing their rope for the Tug of
War.
Deb and David have agreed to set up the cake competition and Ana Maria will
be the judge again with Lamud as her assistant.
Rubbish and Recycling
We will aim to make the party as green as possible. Nicky to look into
options for preventing the rubbish and recycling getting mixed up together.
Margaret to look into compostable cups.
