>>Funny you should say that, my wife was interested in us getting one. So I asked around and found out that the people I talked to got them, and the thrill wore off fast. In a nut shell, Rent them, get it out of your system, go home.

My mom & stepfather rented them at the beach, then my stepfather
proceeded to buy 3 of them over a few weeks (2 of which are now owned
by his son from a previous marriage)... he got a fever, but they are
fun. He's knowledgeable about engines and maintenance so he has no
problem maintaining them. There is some upkeep though - they bought
Yamaha 1200s which have a reputation for seizing the #3 cylinder due
to the oil injector hose being too short, so they premix instead of
using the oiling system. Also you have to use YamaLube oil so you
don't destroy the catalytic converter... but they will be removing the
converters - then you can run any oil.

I imagine they wouldn't be too tough to maintain if you read up on the
care and feeding... guess I just have enough to worry with right
now... might be buying a backpack blower for the fall (ugh).

I messed with 701s and 1300s. Same engine just one has one more cylinder. Both good engines. Whatever you do don't buy a two stroke... 4 stroke and fuel injected is the only way to go.

Prices are good now too. Hondas usually sell for 14k for the turbocharged models and they are selling for half that now. For those that have $ this is a good time to buy. They will run 7K+ rpm for hours and years on end with just an oil change and a lifter adjustment every couple 100 hours.

I couldn't imagine renting jet skis. The rental prices I see lately are typically $100 a hour here.
