You think I would have learned my lesson after having the power go out and I 
couldn't get inside my garage at the other house to leave (detached garage no 
handles or key release of the gdo)

Yeah, I made sure the door from the garage to inside the house was unlocked and 
I had the key in my pocket before I started. :-)
