The house I grew up in (built in 1977) had a wooden door with two torsion
springs.  My house has a non-insulated aluminum door with a single torsion
spring.  I thought it would be a really noisy door opening and closing, but
I have been pleasantly surprised and have no plans to replace it.  My
parents replaced their door at their new house with an insulated one
because the first door that was put up was extremely noisy.

I installed my garage door opener and it was surprisingly easy.  It's a
Chamberlain with the Sears brand on it and the instructions are amazingly
good.  They've had decades to refine them, though.  Just take your time and
read the instructions before you start and it goes pretty smoothly.  I
didn't need to make any trips to the hardware store after I started.
